CIT Hosts the Bavarian State Round of the Math Olympiad

A total of 51 high school students in grades 5 and 6 participated in the Bavarian state finals at the Department of Mathematics of the CIT in Garching. The event is organized and conducted each year by the nonprofit association MOBy e.V.
From School to National Round: Four Levels of Problem-Solving
The Math Olympiad is a multi-stage competition for math-loving students in grades 3 through 13. It is organized by grade level and consists of four rounds: Nationwide, over 200,000 participants tackle the problems in the school and regional rounds each year. The best performers then advance to the state round and, starting in 7th grade, even to the national round, where medals and prizes await them.
Round 3: Bavarian State Finals at the CIT
During the one-day Bavarian state round for 5th and 6th graders at CIT, participants had to complete a three-hour written exam in the morning consisting of four problems. The exam tested logical thinking, problem-solving skills and the creative application of mathematical methods. After the lunch break, the students visited the ESO Supernova and the interactive exhibition ix-quadrat at the Department of Mathematics in Garching. The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where medals were given to the top three finishers.
