What Health Systems Need
At the latest during the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear how many different disciplines must collaborate to enable not only the health system, but society as a whole, to make informed decisions to contain an epidemic. The theoretical foundation for this includes statistics, modeling, simulation, as well as innovative methods such as population genetics and artificial intelligence. A single university finds it difficult to adequately cover all these aspects in research and teaching.
International Collaboration
The competence network bundles and strengthens the expertise of five universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Germany on three levels:
- internet-based teaching and student exchange at the master’s level
- training of doctoral candidates
- joint project workshops and research projects
These activities strengthen the research region of Sub-Saharan Africa and enable the health sector to benefit from internationally trained graduates.
A distinctive feature of the project is the close exchange between universities in East and West Africa. The partner universities intensify scientific collaboration and create personal connections between project leaders, doctoral candidates, and students.
