The world is facing complex challenges that demand bold and sustainable solutions. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has set itself the goal of generating knowledge while also serving as a model for a sustainable future. Through a holistic strategy centered on environmental integrity and social responsibility, TUM aims to shape the path toward a climate-neutral and equitable world.

At the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT), we bring this ambition into the digital realm. We view computer science, information technology and digital systems not only as tools for efficiency but also as essential enablers of a sustainable way of life. We research and develop technologies designed to conserve resources, reduce emissions and generate a positive societal impact. Below, you will find projects from the TUM School of CIT that demonstrate how we implement sustainability in practice and drive it forward through pioneering technology.

ecoNIC shows that networks can become significantly more energy-efficient without slowing down. By using so-called SmartNIC-based load balancing and dynamic compute scaling, energy savings of up to 62% are possible – while maintaining high service quality.
