Double Degree Programs
at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology
Double Degree Programs allow students to study at a foreign partner university and to obtain a second degree alongside the degree from their home university. Since students spend a longer period abroad, they can immerse themselves in the culture and language of the other country and can take advantage of the additional courses on offer.
As part of a Double Degree Agreement, the choice of subjects at both universities is coordinated, and credits are mutually recognized. Unlike Joint Degree programs, the existing individual degree programs at the partner universities are completed, and students are awarded two separate degrees.
Double Degree Options for TUM Students
The TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology has various partner universities for Double Degrees in its individual subject areas. We coordinate the degree programs and recognition of credits with our partners. As a result, there are clear requirements for course participation at TUM and at the partner universities depending on the degree program. If you are interested in taking part in a Double Degree Program at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT), please ask about the options in your department. Plan your studies at TUM, including periods at the partner institution, in good time and inform yourself about the details of the agreement governing your particular program. The listed requirements and procedures are binding for the respective cooperation.

T.I.M.E. – Top Industrial Managers for Europe
T.I.M.E. (Top Industrial Managers for Europe) is an exchange program for engineering and applied sciences students from high-ranking universities in Europe. As part of T.I.M.E., we offer Double Degree Programs with French elite institutions. Participants study for two years at a foreign university together with the students there and are fully integrated into the education program and social life. Upon completing their studies, they are awarded degrees from both partner universities (master’s and Diplôme d’Ingenieur) and can consequently show the international character of their training.
The program aims to train a limited number of selected students supranationally. Turning students into cultural ambassadors through pure language and specialist knowledge is what makes the program special. Each country has developed its own education system in engineering – with pros and cons. The T.I.M.E. program seeks to combine the strengths of the different systems. Participating students are expected to hold above-average qualifications and be particularly open towards foreign cultures and foreign education systems.
Experience shows that graduates are hired by international companies in particular. The program is, therefore, widely supported in industry. A series of alumni organizations have evolved from the exchange program over the course of time. These so-called “T.I.M.E.+ Clubs” form a broad network in Europe.
The Double Degree Program is partly financed by the Franco-German University (DFH/UFA).

Informatics
The Double Degree Programs for the subject area of Informatics have been designed exclusively for the Master’s Degree Program Informatics at TUM. There are currently no double degree options for any of the other master’s programs in Informatics at the TUM School of CIT. There are Double Degree Programs with partners in Australia, France, and Sweden. A successful application requires an advising session on these programs with Carola Jumpertz.
Information on the individual cooperations and the application:
The Double Degree Agreement allows Informatics students at TUM to simultaneously obtain a Master of Science in Informatics at TUM and a Master in Data Science at UQ. The studies require thorough planning as the semester dates differ greatly. The stay in Brisbane starts as early as mid-February which means students cannot take the winter semester written exams at TUM. We therefore recommend organizing your winter semester prior to the stay in Brisbane so that you do not have to take any written exams. One possible solution is to complete the internship, the seminar, the project part of the
interdisciplinary project (lecture already in the preceding summer semester), and the extradisciplinary fundamentals by the end of January.
Requirements for participation
At least 60 ECTS need to be successfully completed at TUM before the stay abroad, including:
