Study Anywhere in the World with TUMexchange
TUMexchange is an exchange program that gives TUM students the opportunity to study for one or two semesters at a renowned partner university outside of Europe – for example, in North America, Latin America, Japan, Southeast Asia, India, China, Africa, Israel, or Oceania.
Overview
The TUM Global & Alumni Office is the central coordinator of the program, and applications are accepted once a year in the fall for the following academic year. In your application, you can list up to two preferred universities.
Under the program, there are generally no tuition fees to be paid at the partner university. Different provisions apply only in a few exceptional cases, which are listed in the online database of post-travel reports.

Ranking for TUMexchange 2027/28
For the application for a stay abroad through TUMexchange in the academic year 2027/28, a ranking certificate for your degree program is required. Information on how to obtain this certificate can be found on the website of your subject area:
Electrical and Computer Engineering (in the respective overview of your degree program)
For students enrolled in the following degree programs, it is currently not possible to download the ranking certificate on their own, as the technical configuration has not yet been completed:
- Master's in Bioinformatics
- Master's in Biomedical Computing
- Master's in Computational Science and Engineering
- Master's in Mathematics in Data Science
- Master's in Neuroengineering
If it is still not possible to download the ranking certificate independently by mid-October, students in these degree programs should contact the Student Exchange Coordinator of their subject area.
We will issue an individual confirmation of your ranking in such cases, which you can then upload to the TUMexchange application portal.
Information Events
A general information event on TUMexchange for all subject areas is held once a year in October by the TUM Global & Alumni Office. In addition, there are several online information events for Electrical and Computer Engineering, Informatics and Mathematics students every year in May and June. The information events took place from May 7 to June 9, 2026. The slides for the individual presentations can be found in the Moodle course.
