If your school leaving degree corresponds to a German university entrance qualification, if you fulfill the additional requirements and if you are able to hand in according documents, you can apply within our application periods. If you would like to find out about your chances in the application process, you can evaluate your chances according to the following regulations of our admission process:

As part of the first stage of the admission process, we evaluate your high school diploma (e.g. Abitur) and your half-year grades for the last two years in Mathematics, English, and one Natural Science. You can achieve up to 100 points within our points-based system.

• The overall grade of the university entrance qualification accounts for 65%.
• The remaining 35% consists of the English grade, the math grade, which is worth three times, and the best natural science (or Informatics) of yours, which is worth two times. Depending on the amount of points accumulated, applicants are either immediately admitted or rejected, or they are invited to an interview carried out by the department faculty:
  • If you score more than 73 points or more you get a direct admission.
  • If you score less than 60 points, you will receive a rejection. You can apply again in for one of the future semesters.
  • If you score between 61 and 72 points, you will be invited to an interview.

Please note: This is just a general information. There may be exceptions, even if you score more than 73 points. For example, if you are an international applicant and do not submit individual grades in relevant subjects, we will also invite you to an interview.

Your application will be checked by the TUM Center for Study and Teaching.

Please do not send any documents to the Academic and Student Affairs. We can not check any individual documents beforehand. Thank you for your understanding.

Students start by learning Java in the first semester, from basic programs to more complex tasks, alongside a group project and assignments. In the second semester, they gain an introduction to C, focusing on system-level concepts like memory management and pointers.

After that, students are expected to learn additional languages independently through electives. Overall, programming languages are taught as tools to understand core computer science concepts, and knowledge of Java or C is usually sufficient for most electives

All application documents must be submitted in either German or English. If your original documents are issued in another language, you will need to provide an official translation.

Please ensure that both the original document and the translation are submitted as certified (notarized) copies. The certification must be done by an authorized body to confirm that the copies are true to the original documents.

Incomplete or uncertified documents may delay the processing of your application, so it is important to check that all requirements are fulfilled before submission.

 After submitting your application through TUMonline and uploading all required documents, your application will be reviewed. If you meet the admission requirements, you will receive an official admission letter.

Once admitted, you must accept your offer and complete the enrollment process in TUMonline. This includes submitting any remaining required documents (such as certified copies, proof of health insurance, and payment of the semester fee).

Enrollment is only finalized once all documents have been received and verified and the semester fee has been paid. After that, you will be officially enrolled as a TUM student and gain access to student services such as your student ID and course registration.

We understand that the deadlines might not fit for everyone, however, to be fair to every applicant, we have to set one deadline that is binding for everyone.

In order for your application to be considered, all required documents stated at our website (verification of German language skills A2, graduation certificates, etc.) must be submitted by the application deadline.

Documents relevant for application cannot be submitted later than this date. Provisional documents (for example, provisional graduation certificates) cannot be considered.

The only exception is the VPD certificate from uni-assist, which can be submitted after the application deadline has expired, provided that your application includes a declaration that you have applied to uni-assist for an examination of your documents.

Since our program is taught in English and most of our students are international, all the contents and information at our website is specific to international as well as to German students. If you go through everything in detail and if you also check our Student Guide carefully, you will have all the knowledge that is necessary for your application. Please check the section "Application" to learn about the required documents.

The recommended approach is to apply for the winter semester as a first-semester student. In this case, you do not need to prove any prior knowledge for admission and can apply for recognition of credits from your previous studies during your first year. This option is generally more successful and less demanding at the application stage.

If you instead apply for the summer semester, this is considered an application to a higher semester. In that case, you must provide proof of extensive prior knowledge already during the application process and meet all admission requirements. Additionally, you need to have at least 28 ECTS from your previous studies recognized by TUM in order to be admitted.

Students are responsible for registering for the exams they wish to take each semester. This means you can decide individually which exams you feel prepared for and sign up for them within the official registration period.

At TUM, the exam registration phase typically takes place at the beginning of each semester: for the winter semester usually from mid-November to mid-December, and for the summer semester from mid-May to mid-June. It is important to register within this period, as late registration is generally not possible.

Please also note that if you register for an exam but decide not to take it, you must deregister within the official deregistration period. Even though you generally have multiple attempts for exams, failing to show up without deregistering will count as a failed attempt.

Keep track of TUM dates and deadlines.

Should you have received an admission, first of all, please let us know if we can support you with the visa by issuing a confirmation letter or asking for an expedited procedure at your visa office.

If you won`t be able to arrive in time due to visa delays, you can start your studies later. In this case please note that you will have to catch up independently or with the help of fellow students. 

There are no online or hybrid classes and lectures usually are not recorded. The professors themselves decide whether to record their lectures. You can register for the courses via TUMonline and then ask the professors to send the material or to record their lectures. 

In the worst case, a delay can lead to basic hurdles (see Student Guide) not being reached and, without evidence of the delay due to a visa, this can lead to exmatriculation.

You then have the option of submitting a hardship application. You can request that you are granted one or two additional semesters to pass the basic exams. It is important that you can provide the relevant evidence regarding the late issuance of the visa. Please contact us as soon as you can foresee that your late arrival will result in a hardship application.

Keep track of scholarship options at TUM Campus Heilbronn and at TUM in general.

Students have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad, typically in the third semester. TUM offers several options such as Erasmus+, TUMexchange, and other scholarship programs to support international experience. 

An important step is establishing a Learning Agreement, which ensures that the courses taken abroad can be recognized at TUM. This agreement must be approved in advance. The process generally includes selecting a partner university, applying for the exchange program, agreeing on courses, and receiving approval for credit transfer.

TUM Campus Heilbronn is one of the many locations of the Technical University of Munich. Since the School of Computation, Information and Technology at TUM Campus Heilbronn is part of the Technical University of Munich, you will get a Bachelor Degree from the Technical University of Munich.
