Short Stay Abroad

Alongside study visits and internships, summer schools and short stays at partner universities are another way for you to complete a period abroad as part of your studies. They can be a starting point to gain foreign experience, are easier to budget, and often a better fit for your course of studies, as the visits are considerably shorter.
Summer Schools
Summer schools at foreign universities are short academic programs that are usually offered during the semester break and commonly allow students to earn credits. We recommend that you contact the student academic advising office in advance to ask if your grades from the summer school can be recognized by the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology.
Fees for individual summer schools vary. Visit the web pages of your preferred university to see what programs they offer.
As a rule, summer schools are self-organized short stays that are not centrally coordinated through TUM. For this reason, send questions about individual summer schools or any application formalities directly to your preferred host university abroad. You can obtain further information from the TUM Global & Alumni Office under Summer Schools and from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
ATHENS Program
Are you looking to gain your first experiences abroad? Then sign up for the ATHENS program and attend a one-week intensive course on topics in the areas of engineering and natural sciences, mathematics, informatics, or politics and economics at one of our ATHENS partner universities.
Participation in the program is free of charge. The costs for travel, overnight stays, and the “European Dimension Activities” cultural program must be covered by the students themselves. We will gladly help you with any questions about organizing or financing the stay. You can obtain further information from the TUM Global & Alumni Office at ATHENS Program.
Blended Intensive Programs
Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) are short group stays at European partner universities. They combine on-campus and online learning. At least three universities from the Erasmus network work together in each BIP. This allows them to offer students and teachers innovative learning formats and an opportunity to form international networks. You can obtain further information from the TUM Global & Alumni Office at Blended Intensive Programs.
