Case Studies Summer Semester 2026
In the summer semester 2026, we offer the “Case Studies Optimization” for Master's students on a mathematics degree program. In this cours, you will work on a current real-world problem together with other students and a project partner from industry or research. We offer a series of exciting projects from discrete and nonlinear optimization in the summer semester 2026.
Participants work in small groups of typically four people. Project work includes describing the problem mathematically, modeling it and working out its key properties. On this basis, you will then develop possible solutions, which you will implement as prototypes and test on real data. You will present your results both internally and externally. Participants receive extensive supervision and individual support.
The information events with presentation of the projects take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, 18:00, MI Lecture Hall 3.
Please note: You can apply for projects across all case studies (“Case Studies Life Science Mathematics”, “Case Studies Optimization” and “Case Studies Scientific Computing”) . The joint application deadline is Sunday, March 15, 2026!
As part of the case studies, we offer introductions to soft skills such as presentation techniques, project planning and team organization. A particular focus is on combining mathematics with a specific real-world application. You will also learn how to present your progress and results of your project to people from other disciplines and with different educational backgrounds.
This course is geared towards master students in mathematics, in particular students of the study programs "Mathematics" with the study focus "Optimization", and "Mathematics in Science and Engineering".
