Funding for the METEOR Research Training Group
Research, Promotion |
METEOR stands for “Methods for Structured Explainability, Robustness, and Fairness” and addresses key challenges in machine learning. The program aims to train doctoral students in the promising interdisciplinary field between machine learning, dynamic systems, and control theory. Participants will work at the intersection of theoretical research and practical application to develop AI systems for safety-critical and highly regulated domains.
In doing so, METEOR will make a significant contribution to the development of trustworthy AI technologies with transparent decision-making processes. The research training group will initially be funded for five years starting in spring 2026 and will explore synergies between data-driven and model-based approaches.
METEOR combines mathematics, computer science, and engineering
The research training group is a joint initiative between TUM and LMU, involving experts in machine learning, control theory, and applied mathematics. The spokesperson is Professor Eyke Hüllermeier from LMU, and the co-spokesperson is Professor Sandra Hirche from the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT). Other TUM participants include Matthias Althoff, Massimo Fornasier, Christian Kühn, and Angela Schöllig, all from CIT.
