International Research Opportunities Programme (IROP), Imperial College London
The International Research Opportunities Programme (IROP) is an exchange programme which takes place over ~8 weeks in the summer from June 30 – August 22, 2025 (it is not possible to move this period!). Selected Bachelor's students (at least 2nd year, 3rd year students preferred) work on a research project in an area of interest under the supervision of researchers at Imperial College London. TUM students take on the responsibilty to plan their TUM degree thoughtfully with regard to the examination period at TUM in July/August. Please have a look at the mobility window section on TUM CIT Informatics for more advice on how to integrate a stay abroad in your TUM degree.
On December 2, 2024 from 17:00 - 17:45 pm CET, the Imperial College offers an online info event for all interested students (Microsoft Teams). You can register for the session via https://imperial.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1HUPAlQFpIcdgLY
Accommodation will be arranged for all participants in student halls of residence. You should expect to commute to either the South Kensington or White City Campus each day
The application procedure for participating in the IROP programme consists of two steps:
1. Apply for an IROP nomination by TUM CIT Informatics until Tuesday, Jan 22, 2025 13:00 pm CET
Please send the following application documents as one PDF to student-exchange(at)in.tum.de : Short, concise letter of motivation including IROP Research Labs; CV; study progress plan (see Excel template on the Mobility Window website); transcript of records/grade report. All other important information about the application process and the program can be found in the IROP PDF
2. After the nomination by TUM CIT Informatics, you will be asked by the IROP coordination to upload specific documents in the IROP Imperial online form to conduct the project matching. These application documents include:
- Statement of motivation (research areas/labs of interest, motivation to take part in IROP)
- CV and academic transcript
- 5 supervisors of interest who you would like to work with on a research project
In your application (see 2. below), you can name five supervisors of interest who you would like to work with on a research project. Please have a look at the Computing department's website https://www.imperial.ac.uk/computing/research/ to find potential supervisors. Supervisors of interest must be from the Imperial department you have been nominated to. An academic’s online biography page will state if they are based at South Kensington or White City Campus. Please do not contact any academics.
The project matching by Imperial College London takes place in February. You will be contacted as soon as the matching will be completed. Thank you for your patience.
