If you would like to write your Master's thesis abroad, you must find a professor at the TUM Department of Mathematics who will help you set a theme for your thesis and supports your efforts to write this abroad. Maybe this person can help you to make contact with colleagues abroad. Alternatively, students can try to organize a Master's theme and supervisor at a foreign university themselves. But please remember, you must still have a theme which is acknowleged by a supporting professor at the TUM. For this purpose, please make early contact with a chair that specializes in a field matching your thesis plans.
Students can use already existing contacts of their theme supervisor and chair at the TUM (for example department partners). Or you can find a contact independently.
Master's theses which are written abroad have to comply with the FPSO of the TUM Department of Mathematics.
An overview of scholarships for writing your thesis abroad can be found on the pages of the TUM International Center. The DAAD also informs you here on scholarships for travel costs, subsidies and insurance (in German language only!).
Short trips abroad
Throughout Europe, 25 renowned universities offer intensive courses for one week, taking place annually in March and November. The courses are on natural sciences, mathematical or technical themes, and include a final test and evaluation which can be rated with 2 ECTS. Futher information can be found on the web pages of the TUM Global and Alumni Office.
Many universities around the world offer compact seminars of 6 to 10 weeks, mostly in the lecture-free periods of the year. Summer Schools are an ideal opportunity to get deeper into a particular theme within an international environment and to test whether a longer stay abroad would be an option for you. Further information can be found on the website of the DAAD.
