General Information
The research program is designed to enable students in the subject area of Informatics to work on cutting-edge research topics in a highly international environment. It can begin in June or July at the earliest and must be completed by December 31 of the same year at the latest.
Depending on your progress in your studies, various research projects are possible. Please read the relevant descriptions carefully. The list of possible research topics for the following year is always published on the École Polytechnique website by the end of November of the previous year at the latest.
Application Process and Deadlines
Step 1: Internal Application to CIT for Nomination
Deadline: usually by the beginning of January
Please send the following application documents (in English) as a single PDF file with the subject line “Research Program École Polytechnique – Request for Nomination” to outgoing-informatics(at)cit.tum.de:
- Curriculum vitae
- Statement of purpose
- including research topics you are interested in
- including reasons why you are qualified for these topics
- Your transcript(s) of records for your bachelor's and, if applicable, master's degree
- Study progress plan
Additionally, complete the "Approval by your home institution" form and attach it to your application email in a separate (second) Word file.
Step 2: Independent Application to École Polytechnique
After you have been nominated by the subject area Informatics at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT), you must apply independently to École Polytechnique in a second step.
Please note that you must organize two academic referees before the nomination, as you will need two letters of recommendation for your application to École Polytechnique. In the application portal, you must provide the contact information of the “referees” (in the sense of “teacher/professor/lecturer/academic supervisor in science/mathematics”). The letters of recommendation can therefore also be provided by research assistants and/or teachers. They will then automatically receive an email from the École Polytechnique application platform asking them to submit a letter of recommendation.
Further information on the application process and the necessary requirements can be found on the École Polytechnique website. If you have any questions about the application, please contact École Polytechnique directly at internship-international(at)polytechnique.fr.
